Co-curricular activities at Trinity Grammar School (TGS) are essential to growing ‘well-rounded’ boys, building boys’ self-confidence and further enhancing their connectedness to the School.

The School is seeking to appoint a Lead Debating Coach to play a key leadership role in delivering the Debating Programme in 2022.  

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Co-ordinator of Debating and Public Speaking in appointing both internal and external staff.
  • Plan, implement and deliver the Debating programme.
  • Facilitate inclusive and age appropriate knowledge and skill development for the students to achieve performance and participation outcomes.
  • Manage the planning and preparation of the activity, giving feedback and ensuring students and parents are advised of activity requirements in a timely manner.
  • Act as the point of contact for all students, parents and other staff.
  • Work collaboratively with the Activities Master and Co-ordinator of Debating and Public Speaking to encourage a positive experience outside of the classroom.
  • Attend all programmed activities including activity meetings, co-curricular sessions and events.
  • Liaise with the Co-ordinator of Debating and Public Speaking to provide reports on student performance, injuries, results and other matters as required.
  • Provide recommendations to the Co-ordinator of Debating and Public Speaking if new or replacement resources are required to improve programme outcomes.

Essential Skills and Requirements

  • Strong background in Debating (School and/or University level) and experience in coaching Debating teams.
  • Adjudication Qualifications or the willingness to attend the relevant courses and receive accreditations is desirable.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with teachers, parents and students.
  • Experience in the performance arts of Speech and Drama is desirable.

Debating meetings are generally held once a week after school. Competitions are usually held on a Friday night each week, at various venues around Sydney. Candidates must be able to commit to attending competitions at these times for the duration of the season and be available to conduct weekly training sessions. Remuneration is competitive and based on experience.
